Empowering Youth

Our History

80 KW Spitfire Squadron, was established in 1942 to help train young men in aspects of aviation and the military during World War II. Following the end of the war, the Air Cadet program remained, but its purpose and focus changed.

This squadron is the only Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron to have the honor in sharing same motto “Strike True” and bell insignia with the 80 Fighter Squadron of the Royal Air Force, which was established in 1917. The Bell insignia serves as a tribute to one of the squadron’s early commanders, Major V. D. Bell.

Today, the Royal Canadian Air Cadets is a national youth program for youth aged 12 – 18, offering dynamic and engaging activities in aviation, flying, music, sports, physical fitness, leadership, citizenship, and many more once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

Since the Air Cadet League of Canada came into being in April 1941, close to one million young Canadians have participated in the training program. It is estimated that in one way or another, 500,000 Canadians are involved in the Air Cadet Movement today.
